Space and Time in 2020
graphite, watercolor, ink, collage, & glitter on paper, each 3.75 x 2.5 in (9.5 x 6.4 cm)
I began making these small drawings during pandemic lockdowns in early 2020 and continued to do so throughout the year as I, along with much of the world sought to navigate the upheavals of fluctuating physical and psychological environments. In these pieces, I have collaged cut text from newspapers and other media along with glitter, and drawn images using graphite, watercolor, and ink. I was responding to the inundation of news, language, and images pertaining to the virus. The pieces are physically small, reflecting the minute physical nature of the source of the pandemic, as well as the shrinking of my physical environment — which at one point limited my studio space to my bedroom desk.
